Fighting cancer commences

Scott started radiation and chemo while he was in the hospital. They made a mask to fit over his face while he was doing radiation. It held him still to the table so the machine can accurately do its very precise maneuvers. Scott wasn't too fond of radiation, but he eventually replaced the anxiety medication for Slim Jims - his post radiation reward/treat.

On March 31st, Scott was discharged from the hospital. He wanted to leave in style, so he wore his cowboy boots, shirt, and hat. He was definitely excited to leave the hospital.

But home was different. The house he left on February 18th was no longer ours. After Scott had his stroke, I realized that there was no way he could live there. It was a bi-level home with stairs as you walked in the front door. Living there would be extremely difficult. We also were renters. We couldn't ask our landlord to add in a lift and make drastic changes to their house. Well, I happen to work for a credit union, an amazing one. I've been with the company for nearly 12 years. Fortunately, they just launched an awesome mortgage program for employees. I was one of the first to take advantage of it. In less than a few weeks, we applied, looked for houses, made an offer, did inspections, closed on the house, moved out completely of the old house, and moved in to the new house. In fact, we closed on a Thursday and Scott came home that following Monday. Let's just say, I was wiped from the move. But I had the support of many friends, coworkers, and family members during the move. It was amazing!

We now have a house to call our own. A quaint rancher with a finished basement. With a few modifications and additions, it was ready for Scott. A ramp built by someone I work with. Grab bars installed by another person at my work. Below is a picture of the kids in front of the house. We just found out that they accepted our offer and I had taken the kids there to check it out. It isn't a very large house, but it is cozy and ours!

With Scott finally home, he was able to finally sleep in our (new) bed! It was definitely nice to have him sleeping next to me once again. Even though radiation and chemo were starting to wear him down, I loved having him there.
